Dyllon stepped off of the Cardassian turbolift into a bustling center of operations. He looked around for a moment, and stepped behind a female Bajoran ensign.
"Excuse me, ensign, where would I find Captain Kira?" Dyllon asked.
The ensign turned around, and immediately froze like a deer in headlights. It was at that moment that Dyllon remembered that the academy had just finished its Spring semester, and new graduates had started taking their posts.
"Uhh... uhhh.. Atten-" she began to yell.
Dyllon grabbed her by the shoulders and looked her in the eyes, "No, no.. shh.. it's okay. Breathe, ensign."
"S-s-sorry, sir..." she stuttered out.
Dyllon smiled at her, "It's okay. Now, Captain Kira? Where would I find her?"
The ensign hesitantly raised her hand and pointed towards the ready room, "She's in her ready room, s-sir"
Dyllon gave her a pat on the shoulder, "Thank you. As you were."
He then walked over to the door, and hit the chime. He heard a female voice yell "Come in."
Kira stood in front of her desk, reading over a PADD and drinking a mug of raktajino. Beside her was a small stand holding a baseball. "Can I get you something to drink?"
Dyllon walked in and smiled, "Sure. Coffee, extra dark roast, lots of cream, lots of sugar."
Kira made her way over to the replicator, tapping in the commands, "So, fastest ship in Starfleet, and can't make your dock time? I almost gave your spot away to a Pakled freighter."
Dyllon chuckled, "They assigned me to the Ganymede a few weeks ago, and only had it half-built. Expected me to get it out of drydock in two weeks. Just be glad we got here in one piece."
Kira made her way over to him, and handed him his coffee. "Well, I really hope they remembered to install your phasers."
Dyllon took a sip, and cocked an eyebrow. "Is it that bad out here?"
Kira went back to leaning against her desk. "Well, when we signed the treaty, the Cardassian Union was supposed to reduce it's force down to roughly twenty starships, in order to patrol their home system while the rest of their territory was to be occupied by the Alpha Alliance. Intelligence suggested there were nearly 500 ships left, even after the battle of Cardassia, but the official tally of remaining ships were what remained around Cardassia after the battle, which was about 30 ships. In reality, multiple high level members of the military ran off with the rest. They've been waging hit and run attacks against anyone not Cardassian that travels through Cardassian space."
Dyllon took another sip, "So, what you're saying is that promise of safe passage from the Detapa Council isn't worth the paper it's written on?"
Kira smiled, "Something like that. They can't really grant you safe passage because they lack the ability to project force beyond their home system. To make matters worse, there's the new Maquis. They tend to focus their efforts on disrupting the Cardassian factions, but they'll hit a Federation freighter if they're hungry enough." Kira turned away and focused on her mug a moment. "But, all parties are using old ships in disrepair. Cardassian ships were already pretty outclassed by Starfleet before the war."
Dyllon smiled. "Why do I get the feeling you're about to ask me for something?"
Kira looked up, "Good instincts. We've got a shipment of industrial replicators that were supposed to be on Cardassia last week. But, three weeks ago, the freighter Kanrin Maru was attacked by one of the Cardassian factions. Barely managed to escape, but lost a third of her crew. Now, I can't get anyone else to take the job."
"Honestly, I was planning on using the slipstream drive to muscle through Cardassian space as fast as possible. I'm not exactly the most popular in this region. There are a lot of dead Cardassian bodies floating around the Betazed system, a lot of them there because of me and my crew."
Kira nodded, "I'm not exactly loved by the Cardassians, either. And that's exactly why I think you're just the person to do it. I know you won't take any of their shit. Come on, there are a lot of good people on Cardassia who will starve if we stop sending supplies. Innocents that had nothing to do with the war, and have nothing to do with the warlords."
Dyllon finished his coffee, and sat the mug down. "Alright, you got me. We'll do it."
Location: Half an hour later, docking port
Dyllon stepped onto the Ganymede, and tapped his commbadge. "McMahon to K'Rah'San and Shraa."
Commander K'Rah'San replied, "XO here"
Chief Shraa replied, "Yes, Captain?"
"I need all crew assembled on the flight deck at 1300 hours."
