Mission:
The Saga Begins
Location: Main Engineering
As we all know, the job of the chief engineering officer is no picnic, and on a newly untested, and untried Luna class it is really the pits! Oh sure, she is new and fresh but every ship has her quirks and problems. The Ganymede is no exception!! E'Lor had her hands full and all the headaches to prove them right. If it wasn't the slipstream drive, it was the replicators. If it wasn't that, it was the air purification systems, or the intermix ratios. Most of the problems were small compared to the main one that for the moment was causing her aggravation, the warp drive! It was not behaving correctly and it was not the intermix ratios causing the problem.
"I just had the core running two days ago, WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED!" she bellowed. Several engineers came running all jabbering at the same time......"Boss, the constructors froze," said one. "It was the power taps Chief," said another. "The plasma injectors got clogged," said yet another. "SHUT UP! All of you........I can't understand all of you at the same time!" E'Lor growled. Putting her hands to her head, she already had a tension headache from the ruckus around her. Walking the diagnostics board, she ran a level 3 diagnostic and quickly found the problem. There was indeed a clog, but not in the injectors. Several of the plasma intake valves had become blocked thus causing the core to shut down. "I don't understand why you didn't run a level 3 diagnostic before you assumed what could be, or might be the problem? What would have happened if it was the antimatter containment system losing containment? What then? You have to be more observant than that if you expect to be on this ship people. I don't tolerate shoddy work or people not doing their jobs correctly. Tell me something, what would you do if the slip stream suddenly malfunctioned?" she asked.
Suddenly, you could hear a pin drop in engineering. Blank faces staring back at her gave her the answer. "Ok boys and girls, you all have homework to do and all downtime is cancelled until you can demonstrate to me that you know what to do in an emergency," she said shaking her head. Watching them slowly shuffle off, she knew she had a good bunch of people but they needed to be taught and she was the good teacher for that. Hopefully they would do better in her mock slipstream emergency drill she would pull in a day or two.
